| I
decided to spend the winter of 2005 in the Ashland area for several
reasons. I'd heard it described as a perfectly precious little town
surrounded by the ancient Siskiyou and the volcanic Cascade Mountain
Ranges. While they are adorned with snow in the winter, the town itself
rarely is, and it sounded like the winter weather was less bleak than
in Portland. Its surrounding parks and activities look plenty inviting
being near Crater Lake as well as the redwoods. I was further convinced
when absolutely every person who had been there got a bright look
on their face as they told me how glorious it is. |

| It
was a beautiful day when I arrived, and I loved the way the soft clouds
moving across the road welcomed me. |

Ashland
lies nestled in the midst of the bountiful and beautiful Rogue
River Valley. Only 15 miles north of the California border,
it provides a proper welcome to the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
With spectacular recreational, cultural and scenic opportunities,
this Oregon gem of a town is not to be missed as a stop most
worthy of exploration. |
