Village Creek State Park
Wynne, AR

Village Creek State Park was the last Arkansas state park I stopped at on my way to South Carolina. By this time I was ready to get there to see my brother and sister-in-heart, but I ended up so glad I hadn't missed this one! Crowley's Ridge is a thin strip of land left behind after the erosion caused by the ancient power of rivers and streams. It's the only geologic formation of its kind in the U.S. with properties so unique that trees and wildlife exist here and nowhere else in Arkansas. Be sure to see the two short features at the Visitor's Center on Crowley's Ridge and the History of Village Creek State Park. They are both beautifully done and will help in your appreciation of this special park - a perfect place to "seek beauty, solitude and adventure."
Area B - (West Campground) - These 24 sites have recently been renovated with full hookups and 50 amps. The deck and picnic areas are really nice amenities. I was in #54 and it took me a while to get satellite TV, but I finally found the "sweet spot" between the trees. Verizon cell phone and aircard were a bit temperamental with low signals, but I was able to surf and talk well enough.
Further down the road from me, look at the space between these sites (#51 & #52). I appreciated this one little tree giving a preview of the big Fall leaf show soon to come.
I met a couple of our neighbors to the north enjoying a campfire on these cooler evenings we're having - Ruth & Ian Falkner from Petersborough, Ontario. This was their first stay in an Arkansas state park and they said they were very impressed. They saw it listed in Trailer Life, but the description didn't do it justice. They really liked the lush trees, the spacious sites, the wide open spaces in between, the wildlife viewing, and how clean and well maintained the park is. They stayed in one of the pull-throughs in this loop (#50).
Further down the loop, you can walk down to a pretty swim beach on Lake Dunn at the end of this area.
Campgrounds Overview:

There are a total of 96 sites in 3 separate campgrounds. There are some double sites for those traveling together wanting closeness, and several large pull-throughs.

Area A (South Campground) (41 sites) - Water & electric only. 5 sites here (#31-35) have 50 amp service. See next page for pics.

Area B (West Campground) (24 sites) - Recently renovated with all sites having full hookups and 50 amp service.

Area C (North Campground) (31 sites) - If you have a horse, he can stay in the new horse stalls in the open area between the sites. Water and 30 amp service to all sites. See next page for pics.

"Pickin' in the Park" - an amateur, spontaneous, unprogrammed Bluegrass festival is held here at the park on the first weekend in May. I betcha that's lots of fun, but the park fills up to capacity, so be sure to get your reservations in early for that event.
Grocery shopping, restaurants, propane, Super Wal-Mart, etc. can be found in Wynne, about 7 miles from the park.

Malia's 2 cents: Not only do I admit to loving having full hookups again while here, I really enjoyed this campground - I loved being on top of the ridge with the sound of the leaves rustling in the breeze and the sights and sounds of colorful songbirds and woodpeckers flitting through the trees. The fall colors are not quite here yet, but with the many hardwoods abounding throughout the park, I've been told it is one truly amazing show.
