Dec. 26-30,
2012

This was the first trip in the RV I was able to take with both my daughter, my granddaughter, and 5 year old great-grandtwins - and this was the perfect park for it! Not only was it close to where the rest of my visiting family was staying (at a local hotel), but the park itself was fantastic for both adults and kids.
Here's the entrance to the park from Fairview Drive.
A picnic table set off the roadside by the Boardwalk Nature Walk flanking Tchefuncte River.
An intriquing private home across the river as seen from the road leading to the back campground.
The moss-draped trees are some of the most enchanting creatures living here. The road on the left leads to the back campground.
Dreamy sunset at the back campground by the boat docks along the river.
On the park grounds is the Otis House, originally built in the 1880's and renovated in the 1930's by Frank Otis, who donated it to the State of Louisiana as a recreational site for visitors. It's open for tours with tickets available at the park entrance.

Nearby Attractions

Location: 2 miles east of Madisonville; approximately 37 miles east to New Orleans across Lake Pontchartrain Causeway.

Directions from website: From I-12, exit 58 south to Madisonville, then east on LA 22.
Note: There was no Exit 58 when I traveled through - it went from 57 to 59. In fact, I got different directions when using Streets & Trips, Google Maps and my Garmin GPS, two saying to use Exit 57 and the other Exit 59.

Streets & Trips and Garmin said to take Exit 57 to SR-1077 to SR-22 (this takes you through the town of Madisonville and doesn't seem the best route in an RV). Google Maps said to take Exit 59 to LA-21, then to LA-22. This is what I ended up doing since there was no Exit 58, and signs led me right to the park.

GPS coordinates: N 30 24.5278 / W 90 8.4277
