April 16, 2011 – While on my way to South Carolina, I was ready for a quick overnight in this area. The night before I had been scared by tornado sirens heard from the campground I was staying at in Theodore, AL (blog post about that), so I was ready for a quiet night.
I saw Leisure Time Campground listed on Microsoft Streets & Trips, but I couldn’t find a website for it at the time. From comments I saw on RV Park Reviews, I was a little concerned about being able to level and I wanted a pull-through, not wanting to have to unhook the car for such a quick stay.
I called and spoke to the manager, Carol, and she was so friendly and helpful, she put my mind at ease. She said if the office wasn’t open when she got there, to pull around to the sites on the creek which have pull-throughs and are the most level.
When I arrived, I saw that she had a welcome sign out for me with a note to pick “whatever looks good.” Even though she guessed the spelling of my name wrong, I was impressed with the the personal welcome! I looked at the Site Map and found my way down the hill and around to the creekside.
This picture shows the creekside row, with J being empty and me occupying Site K. As you can see, these sites are nicely level, large pull-throughs.
Me in Creekside Site K – It’s hard to see the pretty little creek here, but I loved how the trickling sound could be heard from my bedroom window – with the weather being perfect for open windows at night, I slept better than I had in ages!
This is the hill going down to the sites in the circle shown on the site map. The softball field is on the right and I imagine pretty noisy when a game is going on. The first sites you see are back-ins (#1 and #2), then pull through G, all around to the motorhome in #7).
The motorhome here is in site U in the middle part of the park. I noticed one of its front wheels was off the ground in order to level.
Malia’s 2 Cents: I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and will probably look it up again on any return trip. I met Carol the next morning when I went to pay and enjoyed visiting with her so much, I just had to hug her before I left – she makes it that kind of place!
My main tip is not to miss the turn like I did the first time. The only sign is a pretty small one at ground level so I almost missed it on the way back as well.
The rates were reasonable and I like how they offer services “ala carte” so you can pick and choose just what you need. I couldn’t get satellite TV on my site since it was directed right into the trees, so I opted for the cable charge and had no problems with it.
