How Much Does A Casita Trailer Weigh?
Casita travel trailers weigh between 1,970 and 2,480lbs. This dry weight varies depending on the model and its length, and only relates to the dry weight when it is unloaded. Fully loaded trailers usually weigh 2,500 to 3,000lbs.
Again, this will vary depending on the model and how much gear you have in your travel trailer. Now that we have covered the rough weight of the trailer, let’s take a closer look at each model and its weight.
When giving these weights, remember that they are the dry weight and that the trailer will be heavier when it is filled with your gear.

And there you have it, the different models and their dry weights! As you can see, there is a lot of similarity between the models, with the weights differing between the standard and deluxe models.
But why are these weights different? What affects the weight of these travel trailers? Well, keep reading to find out!
Factors That Affect The Weight Of Travel Trailers
Casita trailers come in five models: Freedom, Heritage, Independence, Liberty, and Spirit. They all have different weights, but it might surprise you to know that the model doesn’t impact the weight that much.
Instead, three factors impact the weight of these trailers. Let’s take a look at these now to learn a little more about their weights.
Trailer Length
You might have noticed this when looking at the different weights, but the length of the trailer impacts the weight. They come in two lengths, 16-ft and 17-ft.
The 16-ft models weigh 1,970 – 2,185lbs and the 17-ft models weigh a little more, 2,210 – 2,480lbs. What does this mean? It means that generally, the larger models weigh 268lbs more than the smaller 16-ft models.
Remember, these weights we are using are dry weights! Once you load the travel trailer with your gear, the weight will increase.
Different Version, Different Weight
While the model does not wholly impact the travel trailer’s weight, the version you opt for does. Casita offers two main versions of each model, a standard and a deluxe.
The standard version weighs 1,970 and 2,210lbs and the deluxe version between 2,185 and 2,480lbs. Roughly, the deluxe version will weigh 242lbs more than the standard version.
Again, these are dry weights and any items that you add to the trailer will only increase the weight.
Trailer Options
Finally, how the trailer is optioned will impact the trailer’s weight Weight distribution hitches, electric tongue jacks, and awnings all impact the overall weight and it’s worth considering this when making your purchase.
If you are concerned about the weight, then opt for the most lightweight option you can find. Just be sure to check that it can handle the weight of your trailer!
If you have any concerns about this, be sure to speak to a dealer or Casita directly to find out what they recommend for the trailer you want.
Does Casita Make A 13-Foot Trailer?
For those that want a smaller trailer, you might be wondering about 13-foot trailers and if Casita makes them. They used to make the Patriot, a 13-foot travel trailer. However, it was discontinued back in 2017.
And while that is unfortunate news, it doesn’t mean that you can’t still find one! As the model was only discontinued a few years ago, there are still plenty of Patriots out there. You should be able to source one second-hand at a reasonable price!
When purchasing second-hand travel trailers, make sure to thoroughly inspect the trailer to ensure that there isn’t any damage. Be sure to ask plenty of questions and only make the purchase when you are sure that this is the right trailer for you.
What Is The Weight Of The Casita Patriot (13-Ft)?
Although it is discontinued, you can still find the Patriot second-hand, so let’s take a look at its weight. The Patriot weighs1,785lbs. This dry weight does not include water, propane, and any gear loaded into the trailer.
Once it is fully loaded, the Patriot weighs 2,000 to 2,300lbs. Again, this final weight does vary depending on how heavy the gear you have loaded into the trailer is.
When deciding if you can tow this trailer, be sure to consider the fully-loaded weight rather than the dry weight. The fully-loaded weight offers a more realistic trailer weight and should be considered before making your purchase.
Remember you do not want to tow the maximum weight allowed. Check what your tow capacity is and make sure that any trailer sits under that weight, even when fully loaded.
What Is The Weight Of A 17-Ft Casita Trailer?
The 17-ft Casita trailers weigh between 2,210 and 2,480lbs depending on the version you opt for. Remember, this is just the dry weight of the trailer. Once you have added your gear, the trailer can end up weighing considerably more.
When determining if these travel trailers are the right weight for you or not, you should consider the weight of the trailer when fully loaded. Again, there is some variation here, but you can expect a fully loaded17-ft Casita travel trailer to weigh from 3,000 to 3,500 lbs.

It’s worth noting that the trailer’s price increases when you add an option to it. It’s worth considering this too when setting your budget. Some of the more popular options and add on’s for Casita trailers include:
- AGM Deep Cycle Battery
- Andersen Weight Distribution Hitch
- Casita Trailer Cover
- Tongue Jacks
- Roller Shades
- Entertainment Packages
What Is The Height Of A Casita Trailer?
Casita trailers are 8ft 11 tall and have a witch of 6 ft 8. These dimensions make them easy to tow! You can also see down the side of the trailer while driving with ease, which is fantastic for those towing a trailer for the first time!
And although they are a little small, you still get lots of room inside the trailer! Thanks to the ceiling height of 6 ft 2 and a curved design, you can move around easily. Casita has designed the trailer with space in mind, so every part of available space has been maximized!
How Long Is A Casita?
Casita’s trailers come in three different lengths:
- 13 feet
- 16 feet
- 17 feet
These compact trailers are some of the shortest on the market! It’s worth noting that if you are after a brand new Casita, you will be limited to a 16 or 17-ft version as the 13-foot was discontinued back in 2017.
Can I Use A Subrura Outback Tow Casita Trailers?
A Subrura Outback comes with a maximum tow capacity of 2,700 to 3,500lbs. The maximum tow weight varies depending on the version of Outback that you have. Casita travel trailers weigh between 2,500 to 3,500lbs when fully loaded depending on the version you have.
So, you can tow a Casita trailer with a Subaru Outback! The Outback would need to have the maximum tow capacity we mentioned earlier and tow a trailer that sits on the lower end of Casita’s weight range.
Remember, you don’t want to tow the maximum towing capacity that your vehicle has. Instead, opt for the 80 rule, where you are not towing more than 80% of your vehicle’s max tow capacity. This helps to prevent damage to your tow vehicle and gives you the much-needed cushion.
So those with a Subura Outback with a towing capacity of 3,500lbs should not tow more than 2,800lbs.
