I’m a bonafide Cajun gal, born and raised in New Orleans. I think you always tend to take your home state for granted and it wasn’t until I wasn’t a kid anymore that I learned that not all cities had Mardi Gras every year!
See the links to the right for the places I visited here.
All I knew about Avery Island before this visit was that it was the home of the inventor of Tabasco Sauce. I found The Jungle Gardens of Avery Island is a lush, magical place and I loved that I could tour it from the comfort of my motorhome.
Fairview-Riverside State Park was the perfect campground for a get together with my Cajun family. All us kids enjoyed the Swamp Nature Trail. I especially liked the stately Cypress trees along the banks of Tchefuncte River
Fontainebleau State Park had the crumbling brick ruins of a sugar mill built in 1829, and also some of the most majestic mossy trees I’ve ever seen.
I’d love to hear from you about your favorites in Comments below!
