Merlin, OR (16 miles. from Grants Pass)
June 4, 2005 – Indian Mary is a beautiful Josephine County Park located on the Rogue River along a scenic stretch of the road that connects the little towns of Merlin and Galice. There are 91 campsites, 44 with full hookups, 12 with electric & water only, and 35 for tents only. Fishing, whitewater rafting and amazing sightseeing jaunts are all available within a very short distance of the park. A friend of mine told me this was her favorite campground and I can see why.
The sites are all level and most are heavily shaded. This Airstream is in site 69 and shows the nice distance between sites.
This is site 75 and looked like one with the best bet for getting satellite reception, if that is important to you.
This is site 91 (even though it says 27E, that’s the old numbering system). This was my favorite section as it backs up to the Rogue River.
Vintage Airstream Rally – I thought a stroke of luck that during my visit there that the Jefferson State Vintage Airstream Club was having its rally, so I got a lot of cool pics of the folks and their rigs there.
Just the drive to the park is worth the trip! The Merlin-Galice road is an incredibly scenic drive. My Grants Pass page has more pics and info on that.
Malia’s 2 cents: I regret I never did manage a stay here, but all the people I talked to really enjoyed it and gave it rave reviews. It seemed like it would make a very nice home base for exploring this section of the wild and scenic Rogue River.
