Campgrounds like those here at Dreher Island State Recreation Area that offer waterfront property are my favorites!
October 8, 2006 – Sunrise from my site #16. I don’t usually get up this early, but was glad to witness this sight on this morning.
Here is the same site occupied by my high-tech fisherman, Bill Schmidt, seen on my Park Overview. He and his wife moved to SC about 2 years ago and this was the first time camping at this park. They said they really loved being right on the water, and the fishing and kayaking were great fun. Although I loved the view, this site was a little tighter for me with my larger motorhome and I couldn’t get my awning out – no rooftop satellite TV signal here, either.
Site A-21 is a popular site, a pull-through with great views. Site A-19, a back-in right before this one, is another really nice long site with full lake view to the side.
Here I am in A-11, one of the forest-side sites. The sites on this side of the loop are more sloping, especially at the front of the sites. But they’re pretty long, so I could pull all the way to the back of this one and leveled up OK. I was surprised that even with the heavy tree cover, I was able to get a satellite TV signal.
A typical lake view from Area A. I saw egrets and blue heron skimming the water here, turtles sunning on rocks, and many colorful birds flitting through the trees – a great combination that made for quite an enjoyable stay.
